Tiny k - AT Services for Infants and Toddlers

Tiny k - AT Services for Infants and Toddlers

The contractual agreement continued a focus on regional workshops conducted across the state. Increasing the awareness of the range of assistive technology solutions among local infant toddler providers was prioritized. Assistive Technology for Kansans (ATK)staff scheduled two half day workshops on the same day in a region to allow infant toddler providers and family members to attend one or both workshops depending on their interest. The AT Awareness and Overview workshop highlighted AT devices from the categories of communication, vision, hearing, mobility, seating/positioning, learning, daily living, recreation/play, computers and related, environmental adaptation, and transportation are addressed in this workshop. The purpose of these workshops is to increase local provider awareness of the range of AT devices and services, increase knowledge of specific devices, how to integrate use of the devices into natural environments, and identify available assistive technology resources across the state. Assistive technology solutions in the areas of mobility, seating and positioning focused on mobility was conducted once this year and the materials are being edited and expanded at this time. Each workshop consists of a multi-media presentation, device display related to the topic, interactive exercises emphasizing assistive technology applications in natural environments, and post workshop planning and implementation activities. The funds also supported short-term statewide loan of AT devices highlighted in the workshops. Devices are shipped to families and support is provided by the regional AT Access Sites that subcontract with ATK.
